Treasure

As we followed this Shinto monk down the Kyoto street, I couldn’t help but wonder what might be in his bag. A life of simplicity surely might have room for something treasured–why not a book? Books have always been my companion, on every journey. The sho-sho box is a traditional Japanese container for things that are precious. This one contains a scroll which opens to reveal a quote reflecting on the importance of a book.
