Annie  Smith (BEd, CFA)

Visual Artist

From a very young age, Annie was always drawing, colouring, or doing some sort of craft. By the time she was in her 20s, her most frequent medium was fabric arts and quilting, mostly self-taught. Her formal art education did not start until she began work on her teaching degree, once her children were grown. By minoring in art, Annie was able to develop her skills, and was thrilled to teach art to Middle School students, including sharing her love of book arts with many students over the years. She was passionate about embedding art instruction across the curriculum, and helping students express their creativity and learning.

During this time, Annie continued her own studies through U of A Extension, developing skills in drawing, watercolour, and soft pastels. Her graduating project incorporated her love of drawing and her passion for books and book art. She received her Certificate of Fine Arts (with distinction) in June 2018.
Annie works and lives on Pender Island, BC with her husband, Don, surrounded by natural beauty and an amazing community of artists.
