Heart of Stone
The idea for this book came when the news broke about children being held in cells, away from their parents, when apprehended trying to cross into the United States. It is a meditation on the hardness of our hearts, and what causes our hearts to turn to stone. I collected examples of different stones on our beaches, painted them in watercolour, then broke them open and painted the interiors as a “close up”. A single word identifies how that rock was formed. The same forces that harden these rocks, also harden hearts.
