My 4-month-old granddaughter, with her favourite toy–a book–made me reflect on how learning the alphabet gives a child the basic building blocks of literacy. But then literacy itself is a building block that helps us build a career, and opens so many doors in our lives. This was brought home even more as I watched a refugee family in our neighbourhood, struggling to learn English, knowing that it was the key that would help them rebuild a life and follow their dreams.
The artist book is a simple ABC block which contains an ABC book, with a drawing which symbolizes a career for each letter.
